A millionth Porsche Cayenne rolls out from Bratislava

Love it or hate it, time and again, the SUVs have proven one thing: If a sports car manufacturer needs money, it needs to build SUVs. As for Porsche, the company was in a big financial mess back in the early ’90s, with the losses adding up to 240 million Deutschmarks by the end of 1992. Which is why they built an Audi wagon (RS2 Avant) and even a Mercedes-Benz sedan (E 500). At the end of the 1990s, Porsche decided to build an SUV and the rest, as they say, is history.

A 1,000,000th Cayenne rolled off the production line in Bratislava, Slovakia. Finished in Carmine Red, the Cayenne GTS is headed to a customer in Germany.

The Cayenne is indeed a great success story. Electrification marked an important milestone with the launch of the Cayenne S Hybrid in 2010, followed by a PHEV model in 2014. Currently in its 3rd generation, the Cayenne lineup was joined by the Cayenne Coupe in 2019. The most powerful of the lineup remains to be the 680 hp Turbo S E-Hybrid.
