The 7th generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is yet to make its debut in several markets around the world, but wherever it has already been delivered, is being recalled over the possibility that the inner tie rods (components of the steering mechanism) installed in some units could be the wrong one. Meaning, the components that are not intended for the S-Class.

The recall note sent to the owners urges them to get it inspected “immediately” and replace the components (free of cost) if necessary. The warning message also mentions that indeed if a wrong component was installed, “the connection could not withstand the stresses of driving”, suggesting the risk of an accident.

As you might know, the S-Class is being built at the new Factory 56 in Sindelfingen, Germany. Business Insider reports quoting a Mercedes-Benz spokesperson that the aforementioned component is being delivered to the factory as a pre-assembled unit by a supplier, and MB became aware of this component goof-up from the supplier itself.

Reportedly, about 1,400 new S-Class units have been delivered so far. In a recent announcement, Mercedes claimed that the orders worldwide have exceeded 40,000.
