Ford has revealed the 2022 NASCAR Next Gen Mustang that’ll make its racing debut at the Daytona 500 on February 20, 2022. Ford said that the new car has been in development for two years and is completely different from its predecessor — redesigned from the ground up.

Visually, the 2022 NASCAR Mustang makes an innocent attempt to look “pretty close” to the “civilized” Mustang with similarly-shaped fake headlights, taillights and fake rear exhausts, but obviously, the two are very different cars.

There are some major differences between the Next Gen Mustang and the Gen 6 model, including 18-inch forged aluminum centre-lock wheels vs. 15-inch steel wheels, independent rear suspension vs. solid axle rear suspension, side exit exhausts, rack-and-pinion steering, and a 5-speed sequential gearbox vs. 4-speed manual h-pattern gearbox. The body is made of a carbon fibre composite. Depending on the requirements, the NASCAR Mustang will output 550 hp or 670 hp. Download the fact sheet here.
