The ‘Type S’ of the skies?

Honda Aircraft Company has revealed the HondaJet Elite S — an upgraded version of HondaJet Elite, featuring increased payload capability, enhanced avionics, automation, and of course, new colors.

The color palette contains nine options to choose from, including three new schemes: Luxe Gold, Deep Sea Blue, and Gunmetal. There’s even a camouflage-like special paint scheme. While there are different color options for the HondaJet Elite logo, the ‘S’ however, will always be in Red.

As for the more important stuff, the Elite S boasts an increased maximum takeoff weight of 200 lbs (91 kg) and an additional range of up to 119 nm (137 mi/220 km). Inside, the Garmin avionics support text-based communication between the aircraft and the air traffic services, which might be helpful when there’s difficulty understanding the traditional voice commands. Another highlight of the Elite S is the Advanced Steering Augmentation System (ASAS), which is Honda’s term for autopilot.

Both HondaJet Elite and Elite S are powered by two GE Honda HF120 turbofans mounted over-the-wing, each producing 2,050 lbf (9.1 kN) of uninstalled thrust. Both models also boast a max cruising altitude of 43,000 ft and a max cruise speed of 782 km/h or 422 ktas. The Elite S can carry a total of 7 people (including crew and an optional side-facing seat); with 6 occupants, Honda claims a range of 1,285 nm or 2,380 km, which is 119 nm more than the Elite.

Price? Starts at US$ 5.4 million.
