Mercedes-Benz has announced the pricing for the plug-in hybrid variant of the W223-generation S-Class, the S 580 e, which starts at €126,366 in Germany (including 19% VAT). In Germany, the S 580 e will be available in both standard and long-wheelbase variants.

The S 580 e combines a 3.0-litre (2,999 cc) straight-six turbocharged petrol engine, a permanent magnet electric motor and of course, the 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The ICE puts out 270 kW (367 metric hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, while the e-motor offers an extra 110 kW (150 metric hp) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. The combined output figures, however, are 375 kW (510 metric hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. There’s no 4Matic system here, which means the drive is via the rear wheels.

As for the official performance figures for those who care, the PHEV luxury limo is claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.2 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). And yes, it has also got an electric-only top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph).

Let’s talk a li’l bit about its claimed electric-only ranges, which are between 104 and 121 km (65-75 mi) as per NEDC and between 94 and 113 km (58-70 mi) as per WLTP. A 11 kW AC charger comes standard. A 60 kW DC charger is available in the options list, which is claimed to fully charge the battery pack in around 30 minutes.
