Showcasing the sporty potential of the 5-seater family SUV.

Volkswagen America has revealed the Atlas Cross Sport GT Concept — curated by Volkswagen enthusiast Jamie Orr. The concept will be showcased at select events across the country later this year, most likely to inspire the present and future Atlas Cross Sport owners to make their SUVs literally sporty.

The Atlas Cross Sport GT concept is based on the range-topping SEL Premium R-Line trim. On the exterior, the crossover is finished in a head-turning color named Eisvogelblau, or “Kingfisher Blue” for us non-Germans. Apparently, it was hand-painted by the Chattanooga production team. Of course, the chrome bits had to be replaced with gloss black ones to match that blue paint. You can also notice the lowered ride height, thanks to ST Suspension’s XTA Plus 3 coilover kit. And rounding off the exterior looks are 22-inch ABT Sport HR Aerowheels, wrapped in Yokohama Advan Sport V105 UHP 285/35 tires.

The cabin too looks equally tasteful with just the right amount of blue. There are Recaro seats for both front and rear occupants, and a custom gear shift lever with Jamie Orr’s signature.

“It’s been a lot of fun creating this concept. Hopefully, it’ll get a smile out of people,” said Mr. Orr, who describes himself as “a full-time professional VW nerd”.

As for the juicy bits, the Atlas Cross Sport GT concept borrows the EA888 2.0L TSI motor from the Golf R, producing over 300 hp. There’s an additional front radiator from an Mk7 Golf R. A 7-speed DSG automatic drives all four wheels via 4Motion AWD system.
