After the HEV variant last year, Kia has now revealed the PHEV variant of the 4th gen Sorento. U.S. pricing will be announced closer to its on-sale date, but Kia said that the crossover will be eligible for $6,587 Federal Tax Credit and various state incentives, including single rider carpool lane access in California. The Sorento PHEV will be built in Hwasung, Korea, alongside the HEV variant.

The plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 1.6-litre T-GDi (turbocharged) petrol engine, a 66.9 kW (91 hp) electric motor and a 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The combined output is claimed to be 195 kW or 265 metric hp, which is about 35 metric hp more than the HEV. A 6-speed automatic transmission drives all four wheels via an AWD system with a centre locking differential. The pure-electric range is claimed to be 51.5 km or 32 miles. Kia estimates a combined range of 740 km or 460 miles and a 79 MPGe combined rating.

In America, the 2022 Sorento PHEV will be offered in two trims: SX and SX-P. Features include 19-inch wheels, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, up to 8 USB charging ports, a wireless smartphone charging pad, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, second-row captain’s chairs, standard Rear Occupant Alert (ROA), and a suite of standard Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Lane Assist systems, Highway Driving Assist, Navigation Based Smart Cruise Control-Curve and so on.

As standard, the seats are upholstered in Syntex synthetic leather, while a perforated leather option is also available.
