You can now carry a tiny smile wherever you go.

Suzuki has launched a new kei car called WagonR Smile in its home market, with prices starting at JPY 1,296,900 (INR 8.65 lakh or US$ 11,803). The Smile is available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

As with most of the kei cars out there, the WagonR Smile looks boxy and cute; it almost looks like something straight out of a 3D animated movie. Exterior features depending on the trim include LED headlights with integrated LED running lights, LED fog lights, and 14-inch wheels with wheel caps. Buyers get to choose from four monotone and 8 dual-tone paint finishes.

The cabin appears to offer a lot more space despite measuring only 3,395 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,460 mm, thanks to boxy styling. And as demonstrated in one of the pictures, the seats can also recline, offering a more comfy ride. Other features include an 8-inch central touchscreen, 6 speakers, auto AC, plenty of storage spaces including one under the front passenger seat, USB power sockets, heated front seats, and safety systems including airbags (front, side, curtain), dual camera brake support, and lane departure warning.

Since the WagonR Smile is a kei car, it is powered by a 657 cc 3-cylinder petrol engine, offering 36 kW (49 metric hp) and 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) of torque. A mild-hybrid option is also available, where an electric motor contributes an additional 1.9 kW (2.6 metric hp) and 40 Nm (29.5 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission in all cases is a CVT, and as mentioned, FWD and AWD options are available.
