BMW X7 Nishijin Edition is all about multi-layers

After the Dark Shadow Edition, BMW is looking at the sun for another special edition of the X7 called the X7 Nishijin Edition. However, as the name suggests, it is only for the Japanese market, and only three will be built, priced at JPY 16,800,000 (US$ 152,000).

The exterior of the SUV is finished in a deep purple-ish looking special multi-layer paint that includes aluminum flakes and mica. The paint subtly changes its color depending on the sunlight and the viewing angle.

But the Nishijin Edition is mostly about the interior, where the ivory white Merino leather upholstery is complemented with the traditional Nishijin-ori artwork on the dashboard, centre console, armrests and on the roof as well. Apparently, the surfaces are painted with gold-silver foil or pigment, in a “five-color gold layering” process to achieve that texture.

The X7 Nishijin Edition is based on the xDrive40d variant, which is a combination of a 250 kW (340 metric hp) 3.0L straight-six turbo-diesel engine and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
