Honda SUV RS concept debuts in Indonesia with stylish looks

Honda has unveiled a new tiny crossover tentatively called “SUV RS” at the Indonesian auto show (GIIAS 2021). Still in a concept form, the SUV RS appears to be a sub-4 metre offering and will most likely compete against the likes of Vitara Brezza, Venue-Sonet duo, Kiger-Magnite duo and Nexon, if launched in India as well. In the international/ASEAN markets, the “biggest” competitor would probably be the Toyota Raize-Daihatsu Rocky duo. But anyway, the RS in the name suggests that we’re looking at a sporty variant of the yet-to-be-named SUV.

The SUV RS concept looks stunning, especially with this two-tone paint scheme and RS-specific subtle red accents and stylish wheels. From most angles, the concept reminds me of the 3rd generation HR-V/Vezel; it almost looks like a shrunken version of the HR-V. Apparently, it was designed in collaboration between Honda R&D in Thailand and the Honda team in Indonesia. I’m also told that the SUV RS sits on the same platform that underpins the Brio-Mobilio duo, which means it’ll most likely borrow the powertrains as well.

“SUV segment is currently growing in Indonesia and customers like the character of a sportier car to suit various activities and road conditions. We are very proud to make Indonesia the first in the world to introduce the Honda SUV RS Concept,” said Takehiro Watanabe, President and Director of the local subsidiary PT Honda Prospect Motor.
