The Peugeot Landtrek pickup truck which debuted a year ago, has been launched in South Africa and Chilean markets. In Chile, it is available in a double-cab version, with petrol and diesel engine options, and in 4×4 and 4×2 (RWD) configurations. Prices start at CLP 24,145,100 (for diesel 4×2). In South Africa too, the Landtrek is available in a double-cab version, priced at ZAR 579,900 for 4×2 and ZAR 669,900 for 4×4.

The Peugeot Landtrek is essentially a rebadged Kaicene F70—jointly developed by Changan-PSA collaboration in China. Its off-roading credentials include a ground clearance of up to 235 mm (with 17- or 18-inch wheels); approach, departure and breakover angles of 29°, 27° and 25°, respectively, and a wading depth of up to 600 mm. The 4×4 models boast a BorgWarner transfer case that enables an easy transfer between 2-high, 4-high and 4-low modes via a rotary knob in the center console. Other highlights include one ton of payload capacity and three tons of towing capability.

Features inside include a 10-inch HD touchscreen with a 10 GB hard drive, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, and dual-zone climate control. Safety and driver assistance systems include 6 airbags, Hill Descent Control, Trailer Swing Control, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree camera.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the 1.9-litre (1,910 cc) 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine develops 110 kW (150 metric hp) at 4,000 rpm and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque between 1,800 and 2,800 rpm, and is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. On the petrol side, the 2.4-litre (2,378 cc) 4-cylinder turbocharged unit develops 155 kW (211 metric hp) at 5,600 rpm and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm, and is paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. In South Africa, the Landtrek is available only with a diesel engine coupled with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
