Toyota has updated the 12th gen Corolla Sedan for 2022 for the American market, with MSRP starting at $23,325 (excludes $1,025 DPH fee). Highlights include Apex Edition, return of the Nightshade Edition, and new Ruby Flare and Windchill Pearl colors.

Trim Transmission MSRP
SE 6-iMT $23,325
SE CVT $22,625
XSE CVT $26,075
L CVT $20,175
LE CVT $20,625
XLE CVT $24,575
SE Nightshade CVT $23,325
SE Apex 6-iMT $25,710
SE Apex CVT $25,320
XSE Apex CVT $28,450

The Apex Edition is available on the SE or XSE trims. It sports a black aerodynamic body kit complete with bronze accents, a front spoiler, fog light covers, side moldings and a rear diffuser. A rear trunk wing is an optional extra for those who like to rice things even more. 18-inch cast-aluminum gloss-black wheels round off the exterior looks. Each wheel offers a weight reduction of a kg (2.2 lbs).

Inside, the Corolla SE Apex Edition features premium fabric upholstery, while the XSE Apex Edition has black SofTex-trimmed fabric upholstery. The XSE Apex Edition will also feature heated front seats, including an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support.

It’s not all visual though. The Apex Edition also boasts a unique track-tuned suspension with testing done on various tracks around the world including TMC Higashi-Fuji Proving Ground in Japan and Toyota Arizona Proving Ground and MotorSport Ranch in Texas. The coil springs lower the ride height by 0.6-inches while the increased spring rate reduces body roll at corners. In addition, new jounce bumpers are claimed to ensure the lowered ride height doesn’t hinder ride quality. In all, the Apex Edition suspension increases roll stiffness by 47% at the front and 33% at the rear. Toyota also claims to have tuned the steering to match the suspension.

The Apex Edition will be powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with 126 kW (171 metric hp/169 bhp) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. Transmission can either be a 6-speed iMT or a CVT.

The Corolla Nightshade Edition returns for 2022 on the SE trim with a familiar tried and tested formula. The dark-themed elements include black 18-inch alloy wheels, bumpers, front grille surround, mirror caps, side rocker panels, door handles, rear spoiler, shark fin antenna, and of course, exterior badges as well. This one too comes with the aforementioned 169 bhp 2.0L engine with iMT or CVT.
