Kia EV5 electric SUV shows off its production design

Kia-EV5

Kia has taken the wraps off the EV5, an all-electric compact crossover, set to launch initially in the Chinese market later this year. No, this is not a concept, but the production version of a concept that debuted earlier this year.

And, the production model doesn’t look all that different from the concept, isn’t it? The barely noticeable differences include the productionized lights at the front, production mirrors, and production wheels—which still look very concepty. Buyers get to choose from nine glossy and one matt paint options: Snow White Pearl; Clear White; Starry Night Black; Magma Red; Ivory Silver; Frost Blue; Iceberg Green; Tide Blue; Shale Grey, and of course, Ivory Silver (matt). Full details of the vehicle are expected to be released in October at the Kia EV Day event, but just to give you an idea, the EV5 is roughly about the size of the Hyundai Tucson.

Inside, the dashboard, the door panels, the centre console, the shape of the seats.. all are similar to those of the concept. As is the case with Hyundais and Kias these days, the dashboard houses a wide panel that integrates both the touchscreen and the cluster. There’ll also be 64-color ambient lighting.

As mentioned, further details are reserved for another day, but you can expect an RWD to begin with, offering 150 kW (204 metric hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft). But then, I could be wrong.
