2023 Tata Nexon facelift debuts with fearless design & new onboard tech

Tata Motors has taken the wraps off yet another Nexon facelift, because apparently, there’s still some time for the second generation. The new model boasts revised styling, tech upgrades and enhanced safety equipment. Bookings are officially open today, and buyers get to choose from four main trims: Smart, Pure, Creative and Fearless. Kinda cheesy, I know, but let’s take a brief look anyway.

The styling upgrades include a redesigned front fascia where the main headlight units now sit on the redesigned bumper. The traditional headlight location now houses LED running lights—which double as sequential turn signals. On the side, there are new 16-inch alloy wheels with design inserts similar to those of the LED running lights, and at the rear, there are Y-shaped connected taillights.

The designers were probably going for a mini Harrier look, but I’m not entirely sure. But what I’m sure of, however, is that the design will grow on you over time. As for exterior colors, there are a few dual-tone options depending on the trim, which you can check out in the brochure here.

Inside, there’s a new dashboard that now houses a 10.25-inch touchscreen (Creative+ trim and above) and a 10.25-inch digital cluster with navigation (Fearless trim). The lesser trims get a 7-inch touchscreen. Other key features depending on the trim include Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity; auto AC; ventilated front seats; rear AC vents; a wireless smartphone charging pad; Benecke kaliko leatherette upholstery; height adjustable front seats; JBL audio system, and voice-assisted electric sunroof.

Standard safety features include 6 airbags, ESP, Hill-hold Control, and Isofix mounts. Depending on the trim, you also get front fog lights with cornering function, automatic headlights, front parking sensors, 360-degree view, TPMS, height-adjustable front seat belts, and rear defogger.

Moving on to the juicy bits of the story then, the new Nexon continues with the old set of engines. The petrol is a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged unit, offering 88.2 kW (120 metric hp) and 170 Nm (125 lb-ft). However, depending on the trim, this engine now comes paired with a 5-MT or a 6-MT or a 6-AMT or a 7-DCT.

The diesel is a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit, offering 84.5 kW (115 metric hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft); there are 5 more horses this time. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT.
