Baby, I swear it’s Déjà Vu
As the automotive industry continues its transition towards ditching the ICE altogether with💩designs, cars from the past seem more appealing and sexy to a lot of us. What turns heads these days? A new EQS or a 300 SL Roadster? Exactly. We all desire to look “cool” driving down in a roadster from the ’60s. Every now and then, carmakers realise this and offer retro-themed editions, and one such is this G-Class “Stronger Than The 1980s” Edition. Cringey name, but you get the idea. As a homage to the original W460, this special edition is limited to 460 units, with each carrying a base price of €160,055 (including 19% VAT).
As you can probably tell, the styling of this special edition is inspired by the original W460 (also known as Puch G). The black front fascia with horizontal grille slats and headlight mesh, for example, is derived from the W460. The same is true with the wheel design, the wheel arch extensions, the rear ladder, and the tailgate badging. However, the headlight mesh, mud flaps, all-terrain tyres, and the roof rack are part of the Professional Line optional pack. Complementing these retro design touches are three retro paint options: Agave Green Solid, Cream Solid, and Colorado Beige Solid.
Inside, you still get a modern dashboard, but the grab handle features the special edition name, which again, looks cringey in my opinion. The centre section of the black leather seats is covered with dove grey fabric that was popular at the time. Also, notice the limited edition numbering on the centre console. Nappa leather steering wheel, a sliding sunroof, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system round off the key interior features.
The G-Class “Stronger Than The 1980s” Edition is available only in the G 450 d flavour. Which means, it packs a 3.0L straight-six turbo diesel engine with 270 kW (367 metric hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft), paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and an AWD system.
