The second-gen Jeep Compass was a great success, at least here in India, thanks to its attractive base price when it was launched in 2017. With the eventual arrival of new brands and fresh products from the established ones, the competition has been (very) tough lately, and the customers are spoiled for choice. Which is why Jeep is introducing the 3rd-gen Compass to see if it can re-create that magic it did almost 10 years ago. Order books are open in Europe, with deliveries scheduled to commence in Q4 2025.
The photos here showcase the Compass 4×4 and Compass First Edition; I’m assuming that the latter will be a front-wheel-drive vehicle. As for the design, the new Compass continues with the design language we saw in the 4th-gen Wagoneer and the Avenger. The design is clean and minimalistic, and those sharp creases make it look muscular and rugged. The First Edition gets 20-inch wheels and LED matrix headlights as standard. Built on the STLA Medium platform, shared with other brands under the Stellantis umbrella, the new Compass is longer by 157 mm with 155 mm extra wheelbase, resulting in 55 mm of additional legroom inside.
Jeep says that the new Compass comes with new suspension tuning with dedicated springs, dampers and antiroll bar, resulting in a good compromise between handling and comfort. Other key highlights include an Active Grill Shutter on the front bumper for better aerodynamics, a ground clearance of up to 200 mm, an approach angle of 20°, a breakover angle of 15°, a departure angle of 26°, and a water wading capability of up to 470 mm. The approach, breakover and departure angles in 4×4 models are even better: 27°, 16° and 31°, respectively. Selec-terrain will be standard on all versions.
Inside, key highlights include a 10-inch digital cluster, a 16-inch infotainment display, and standard cloth & vinyl heated seats with 6-way manual adjustment and 2-way driver lumbar adjustment. The First Edition also gets Level 2 autonomous tech as standard. The boot capacity is claimed to be up by 45 litres, reaching up to 550 litres.
Moving on to the juicy bits of the story, the new Compass will be available in a bunch of flavours, including a 145 hp 48-volt mild-hybrid, a 195 hp plug-in hybrid, and 3 BEV versions—ranging from 213 hp FWD to 375 hp AWD. The electric AWD comes with a powerful rear electric motor that offers an additional 49 kW (67 metric hp) of peak power and up to 232 Nm (171 lb-ft) of torque. This motor is coupled with a 14:1 rear reducer, which translates into 3,100 Nm (2,286 lb-ft) at the rear wheels, Jeep says. The BEV versions are claimed to offer a range of up to 650 km (404 mi).
