Toyota’s smallest full hybrid
The Toyota Aygo X, which debuted in fall 2021 as a successor to the second-gen Aygo, is now getting a full hybrid variant, and of course, its Gazoo Racing iteration. The Aygo X Hybrid will go on sale in Europe by the end of 2025.
You can probably notice a few styling revisions, mostly on the front fascia, compared with the original Aygo X. There are new headlights and what appears to be a connecting chrome element, a sportier bumper design, rectangular fog lights, and new 17- or 18-inch alloy wheel designs. The GR Sport looks even more sporty with its “G-pattern” mesh grille and extensive bi-tone paint scheme.
Toyota says that the Aygo X GR Sport is not just about looks. It comes with model-specific tuning of the shock absorbers and coil springs for enhanced handling and optimised body roll, while tuned electric power steering gives a sharper response.
The hybrid powertrain is a combo of a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and an electric motor integrated into a CVT. The system power output is 85 kW or about 116 metric hp. The petrol engine produces a torque of 120 Nm (88.5 lb-ft) while the electric motor is rated at 141 Nm (104 lb-ft). This exact powertrain is available with the Yaris hatchback and Yaris Cross as well.
Inside, there’s a new 7-inch digital combi-meter and AC control panel. The electronic parking brake is standard on all grades, as are two USB-C charging ports. A new wireless smartphone charger, a digital key, powered folding mirrors, and nanoeX technology for improved air quality are also available on higher grades.
