A homage to the original 1990 Fat Boy
The Harley-Davidson Fat Boy (ಧಡಿಯ ಸೂಳೇಮಗ) is celebrating its 35th anniversary with the Fat Boy Gray Ghost. This is the 5th installment in the company’s ‘Icons’ collection. Limited to 1,990 units, the Gray Ghost carries an MSRP of $25,399.
The Fat Boy Gray Ghost comes with a mirror-like finish created through an advanced Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process, in which a solid material is vaporized in a vacuum and deposited onto the surface of a part, in this case, the fuel tank and fenders. This is accomplished by applying a positive charge to the solid material (an aluminum alloy) and a negative charge to the motorcycle part. Following the deposition process, the part is painted with a standard clear coat finish. Chrome side covers and a silver powder-coated frame complement the PVD parts.
Styling cues inspired by the original Fat Boy include a round air cleaner, yellow accents on the lower rocker covers, powertrain covers, and tank console insert. Additional details—such as a leather seat valance with lacing and tassels, and a black leather tank strap with laced edging—add to the nostalgic aesthetic. 3D fuel tank medallions replicate the iconic winged graphic from the original Fat Boy. A commemorative tank console insert is etched with the bike’s unique serial number, while the Icons Collection medallion is positioned on the rear fender.
The Fat Boy Gray Ghost is powered by an updated Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom engine (1,917 cc V-twin) with 75 kW (102 metric hp/100.6 bhp) and 165 Nm (122 lb-ft). Compared with the regular Fat Boy, there’s a shortage of 2 kW (2.7 metric hp/2.7 bhp) and 6 Nm (4 lb-ft).
