Europe doesn’t sound as exciting as it used to about 10 to 15 years ago, and I’m not blaming it all on the illegal immigration crisis, but also on the stringent and borderline-illogical emission norms. The latest victim is the Honda Civic Type R (FL5). Since it no longer complies with the upcoming stricter Euro 6e norms, Honda is discontinuing the model with the Civic Type R Ultimate Edition, limited to just 40 units. In the UK, the limited edition carries an OTR price of £57,905.
So, what do you get for that extra £6,000? Well, it comes exclusively in Championship White paint finish with red decals across both the bonnet and on the side of the vehicle. A painted black roof and a carbon fibre wing are the other key highlights. And of course, you gotta have that ‘Ultimate Edition’ bragging rights badge.
Inside, the door sill and centre console get a carbon fibre applique. The red seat upholstery and red flooring are stock; no changes here. And of course, you get a Type R light projection. Each owner gets an Ultimate Edition gift box containing a numbered emblem, Carbon key ring and Type R keys.
No mechanical changes. The Civic Type R, as you may know, is powered by a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out 242 kW (329 metric hp) at 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque between 2,500 and 4,000 rpm. A 6-speed manual gearbox drives the front wheels. The official 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 5.4 seconds.
