First-ever BMW M2 M xDrive joins the lineup

2026 is the year of big changes, apparently, and the latest addition to this list is the first-ever BMW M2 M xDrive. Which means the popular rear-wheel-drive sports car is no longer exclusively rear-wheel-drive. Prices in Germany start at €81,300 (including VAT), which is €3,000 more than the regular M2.

Visually, the M2 M xDrive doesn’t look any different compared with the regular M2. It doesn’t even appear to carry an xDrive badge anywhere, probably in an attempt to be more discreet. However, the actual customer cars might carry one. The color palette includes a new Borusan Turkish Blue special paint option. As standard, the M2 M xDrive rides on M light-alloy wheels (19-inch at the front, 20-inch at the rear). Braking duties are handled by M Compound brakes with six-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston callipers at the rear.

Powering the M2 M xDrive is a 3.0L straight-six twin-turbo, pumping out 353 kW (480 metric hp) at around 6,250 rpm and 600 Nm (442.5 lb-ft) of torque between 2,200 and 5,600 rpm. The engine is coupled with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, and of course, the xDrive AWD system and the Active M Differential. There’s no manual transmission option here. Dry weight is claimed to be 1,865 kg (4,112 lbs), 50 kg (110 lbs) more than the regular M2 automatic. But thanks to the AWD system, the 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 3.7 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the regular M2 automatic and 0.5 seconds quicker than the regular M2 manual.

One of the key highlights here is that the xDrive system is rear-biased and switchable. In normal driving, power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels, and only when the system detects the need are the front wheels brought into play. The driver can manually select the 2WD (RWD) mode with DSC deactivated.
