Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV debuts with familiar looks

“Wait a minute, this looks familiar!” Well, of course it does. It looks familiar, not just because it’s Mitsubishi’s version of the Nissan Leaf, but also because it may remind you of a certain infamous Italian EV that we all unfortunately witnessed recently. The 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV is expected to go on sale in America in late summer or early fall 2026.

Except for a couple of images, Mitsubishi didn’t bother sharing any details whatsoever, but that probably doesn’t matter since it’s gonna be more or less the same as the Leaf except for a few cosmetic changes. Speaking of which, the DRLS, the bumpers, the wheels, and the taillight signatures are a bit different. You need a side-by-side comparison to notice these differences. The company said that further information will be released closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.

Technical details are probably gonna be the same as the Leaf. Speaking of which, the Leaf is a front-wheel-drive EV with a single electric motor at the front, offering 160 kW (214.5 bhp/217.5 metric hp) and 354 Nm (261 lb-ft). A 75 kWh battery pack offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 488 km (303 mi) depending on the variant. MSRP starts at $29,990.
