All 275 future owners of the Mercedes-AMG One might have to wait for some more time, until 2021, to take their hypercars home, according to recent reports which cite insider information.

The hypercar made its global debut nearly two years ago as Mercedes-AMG Project One, which was later officially renamed as Mercedes-AMG One. Apparently, the engineers at Affalterbach are facing challenges in getting the One’s F1 1.6L V6 turbocharged engine to adapt for street-legal application.

Just to remind, the One features four electric motors as well, one of which is an electric turbocharger. The total system output is estimated to be over 1,000 hp.

One of the challenges that are being faced by engineers according to reports, is to do with meeting the emission regulations for street use. Another challenge is that an F1 engine is rather sensitive, and the oil circuit needs to be warmed up before starting the engine. Above all, there are compatibility and reliability concerns over using such an engine for a road car.
