And “ticking all the right boxes” includes pricing as well. Speaking to Hormazd Sorabjee of Autocar India, Kevin Flynn, President & MD of FCA India said they’re gonna get the pricing right for the Compass, without divulging the price bracket.

Also, Kevin said there will be a wide variety of variants to choose from, both petrol and diesel, and automatic options. When asked about 4WD, he said “not throughout the range”, which means there will be a 2WD Compass as well.

FCA has invested $280 Million at the Tata-Fiat collaborated Ranjangaon plant, and Compass will be the first Jeep to roll out of it. The SUV has already been spotted testing several times around Pune.

The Compass, now in its second generation, is based on “Smal Wide 4X4” platform – jointly developed by GM and Fiat, and is also shared with Jeep Renegade. For Compass, the platform has been extended for longer wheel base.

In US market, the Compass retails at a starting price of $19,940, which roughly translates to Rs 13.5 lakh.

Features wise, it packs a UConnect infotainment system, leather seats, sunroof, 6 airbags, ESC and so on. Jeep is currently expanding its dealer network in India, and the Compass is expected to be priced competitively.

Kevin said the launch will happen sometime in Q3 2017.
