Kite 5 is named Tata TIGOR ‘Styleback’

Tata Motors has christened its new subcompact sedan as Tata TIGOR. Tata calls it India’s first ‘Styleback’, just a fancy name owing to its fastback-style slopy rear end. Tigor is almost ready for the launch, however, the company is yet to announce the date.

The compact sedan has won CII Design Excellence Awards for the year 2016 as well. Based on the Tiago hatchback, the Tigor will borrow the IMPACT design language along with the powerplants from its hatchback sibling. The 1.2 litre 3 cylinder Revotron petrol producing 85 PS @ 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3500 rpm. The diesel is 1.05 litre 3 cylinder Revotorq, producing 70 PS @ 4000 rpm and 140 Nm @ 1800 – 3000 rpm. These figures could change for the sedan. Both engines are paired to a 5 Speed manual transmission. Expect an AMT transmission option as well. The compact sedan will take on the likes of Maruti DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire and Hyundai Xcent.

Announcing the name Tata TIGOR, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “After HEXA, we are speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata TIGOR which opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. The break-free design dynamics of Tata TIGOR makes it India’s 1st Styleback. We will announce its commercial launch soon and are excited to see the IMPACT of the ‘Styleback’ on our customers.”
