Mercedes-Benz has launched the new GLE in India, priced at Rs 73.70 lakh for the LWB GLE 300d and Rs 1.25 Crore for the LWB GLE 400d variant. Prices are ex-showroom, Pan India. For the confused ones out there, the new GLE is being marketed as ‘LWB GLE’ for the Indian market.

Unlike the E-Class LWB which actually gets more wheelbase, the ‘LWB GLE’ doesn’t get any more wheelbase than the 2,995 mm of the international model that debuted in 2018. The ‘LWB’ is being used due to the fact that the new GLE gets an additional 80 mm wheelbase over its predecessor.

Features include MBUX system, 48-volt E-Active Body Control suspension, and driving assistance systems such as Active Braking Assist and Blind Spot Assist.

Powering the GLE 300d 4Matic is a 2.0-litre (1,950 cc) 4-cylinder diesel engine, producing 180 kW (245 hp) at 4,200 rpm and 500 Nm of torque between 1,600 – 2,400 rpm. The GLE 400d 4Matic is powered by a 3.0-litre (2,925 cc) in-line 6-cylinder diesel engine, producing 243 kW (330 hp) between 3,600 – 4,200 rpm and 700 Nm of torque between 1,200 – 3,200 rpm.

The latter is the quickest too with a 0–100 km/h acceleration claimed to happen in 5.7 seconds. Transmission is a 9G-Tronic automatic.
