Two’s a company, three’s a party!

It was just a matter of time the Audi e-tron SUV received some kind of a “performance” variant, obviously for those who felt the 300 kW (408 hp) and 664 Nm (489.7 lb-ft) of torque (in boost mode) is not sufficient enough. As the cliché goes, there’s no such thing as too much power!

With that, let’s go ahead and find out what’s this e-tron S is all about. It’s available both in the regular e-tron and the e-tron Sportback variants.

Unlike the aforementioned “normal” e-tron SUVs, the S models will get three electric motors; two at the rear axle and one at the front. They achieve a combined peak output of 320 kW (435 hp) and a peak torque of 808 Nm (596 lb-ft), which is already a significant increase over the normal e-tron models. However, in boost mode, the motors achieve 370 kW (503 hp) and 973 Nm (718 lb-ft) of torque.

A 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is claimed to happen in 4.5 seconds while the top speed is limited to 210 km/h (130 mph).

The motors draw juice from the same 95 kWh (86 kWh usable) battery pack, offering an estimated range of up to 360 km (223 mi) in the e-tron S and up to 365 km (226 mi) in the e-tron S Sportback.

The battery pack is capable of getting DC fast charged with up to 150 kW. In ideal conditions, it is claimed to take about half an hour to charge from 5% to 80%.

And yes, the S models look a lot more sporty and sexy too, in case we forgot to mention that. They get sporty bumpers with more air inlets, black stying elements and whatnot. As standard, they ride on 20-inch wheels but up to 22-inch wheels will be available in the options list at a later date.

The front discs measure 400 mm with 6-piston calipers. The calipers are painted in black as standard or can also be painted in a bright orange.

The S models also feature the adaptive air suspension sport with S-specific tuning, as standard. It can vary the ride height depending on the driving speed and other conditions. In offroad mode, the air suspension raises the body by 35 mm (1.38-inch).

The dark interiors of the S models feature standard electrically-adjustable sport seats, S embossing on the gear selector lever and seats, Audi virtual cockpit, MMI touch response displays, dark brushed aluminum accents and so on. There are plenty of options too including open-pore carbon accents, ambient lighting package, head-up display and of course, the virtual exterior mirrors that replace the traditional ones with cameras.

When opted for the virtual exterior mirrors, the drag coefficients are just 0.26 for the e-tron S Sportback and 0.28 for the e-tron S.

The S models will be launched in the European markets by the end of 2020. Prices in Germany start at €93,800 for the e-tron S and €96,050 for the e-tron S Sportback.
