China’s Dongfeng Motor has commissioned Italdesign to come up with a new 2-door electric sports coupe for a new, dedicated luxury EV brand ‘Voyah’. In fact, Italdesign is also working on a crossover for Voyah, but that’s a different story. What we’re seeing here is called the ‘i-LAND’, and it made its premiere alongside its SUV sibling at the Auto China 2020 in Beijing a few days ago.

Italdesign is not only responsible for designing the vehicle, but also the branding and engineering/development side of it. The corporate logo of Voyah was also designed by the VW Group-owned Italian design house. As for the product itself, the front fascia features an LED-illuminated grille, where the light band creates an illusion of originating from the logo.

The lower front has the aero blades (if we can call them that) that redirect the air towards the side, where you’ll also find the blades. The side profile looks especially impressive at night, showcasing its “German curves”.

As we can see, the doors are massive, gull-wing style, and are intended to serve both the front and rear occupants. The rear-end from certain angles, might remind you of a 4-door EV from Stuttgart. Which should be fine, because after all, the design house and the said EV belong to the same family, if you know what I mean.

The cockpit has no shortage of displays. As if an array of floating screens on the dashboard wasn’t enough, the steering wheel also gets one. In addition, there are hidden displays such as the ones on the edge of the dashboard to display the temperature. The air conditioning vents have been thoughtfully integrated on the edge of the dashboard, which continue on the central tunnel. The shape of the panel that houses the PRND selectors is reminiscent of the Voyah logo.

Also, the i-LAND features a strange 3-seater layout where the seat next to the driver is replaced with a contraption that can become a table or footrest as needed.

The Voyah i-LAND is a concept and its technical details are not yet available. However, Italdesign said that the car is built on ESSA (Electric, Smart & Secure Architecture) electric platform developed by Dongfeng. The production version in the future might feature Level 3 or higher automated driving technologies.
