Mercedes-Benz has launched the 7th generation W223 S-Class in India, priced at INR 2.17 crore for the S 400d 4Matic and INR 2.19 crore for the S 450 4Matic. Both prices are ex-showroom, Pan India. The new S-Class is being imported to India as a CBU, which explains that ridiculous price tag. Just to compare, the S 400d 4Matic in Germany starts at €112,205 which roughly translates to INR 99 lakh, which means you get two cars in Germany for the price you pay for one in India! 😀 But that’s how much CBU imports cost in India, not the company’s fault. Mercedes-Benz India claimed that it had received more than 75 bookings even before the flagship’s India debut.

Anyway, the new S-Class made its global debut in September 2020. In the international markets, the S-Class is available in standard wheelbase (3,106 mm) and long wheelbase (3,216 mm); India is getting the latter.

Features list includes Digital Light, panoramic sliding sunroof, 20-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels, 12.8-inch portrait-style OLED touchscreen, “Hey Mercedes” voice control, Rear Seat Entertainment System, Airmatic suspension, reclining rear seats, and so much more. Read more in detail and check out more pictures here.

The S 450 is a petrol variant, powered by a 3.0-litre in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged engine with 270 kW (367 metric hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque on offer. The S 400d is, of course, a diesel variant, powered by a 2.9-litre in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged engine with 243 kW (330 metric hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque on tap. A 9-speed automatic gearbox drives all four wheels via a 4Matic AWD system.

The S 450 is claimed to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds, while the diesel is slower by 0.3 seconds. The top speed is limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) in both variants. Download the brochure here.
