Ghibli gets Fragmented.

Maserati has teamed up with Japanese musician and streetwear designer Hiroshi Fujiwara, to create a special edition Ghibli named after Fujiwara’s brand — Fragment. The collaboration is basically to promote the Maserati Fuoriserie customization program which enables the customers to bespoke their Maserati.

The Ghibli Fragment is based on the Granlusso trim, and will be available in two variants: Ghibli Operanera and Ghibli Operabianca. As the name suggests, one car will be finished in glossy black and the other in glossy white; both are combined with matt black touches and 20-inch Urano matte black wheels. The front grille carries the Fragment badge, while on the C-pillar, the traditional Trident logo is replaced with the Fragment logo.

Last but not least, the special edition carries the M157110519FRG alphanumeric code underneath the three iconic side air ducts, which represents the collaboration. The first four characters are, of course, the Ghibli model code, the next six numbers are the date of the first meeting (5 November 2019) between Hiroshi and the Centro Stile Maserati, and the final three letters are the acronym of Fragment.

The cabin too carries over the dark theme with black leather and Alcantara, with contrast stitching in a muted silver. The dark blue seatbelts, however, add a proper contrast.

No mechanical changes, obviously. Depending on the market, the Granlusso trim is available with a 2.0L petrol-electric mild-hybrid, a 3.0L V6 turbo diesel, and a Ferrari-built 3.0L twin-turbo V6 petrol powertrains. Maserati didn’t share the price of this Fragment special edition but said that only 175 units will be available globally.
