MG Motor India has launched the 2022 ZS EV facelift in the country, with prices starting at INR 21,99,800 (US$ 28,605) for the Excite variant and INR 25,88,000 (US$ 33,653) for the Exclusive variant. Both prices are ex-showroom, Pan India. However, do note that the base Excite variant will be available from July 2022, while the Exclusive variant can be ordered from today. Not sure if this has something to do with production challenges or simply a marketing strategy.

But anyway, the ZS EV facelift made its global debut in October 2021 and the local production began in early Feb 2022. The styling revisions are in line with the ICE-powered ZS facelift (sold as Astor in India), but there are some obvious differences between the two, such as the closed-off grille on the front fascia and a more closed-off front bumper as well. Other differences you can notice are the rear bumper and the new 17-inch aerodynamic wheels. Full LED headlights, LED taillights and a panoramic glass roof are also part of the exterior features list.

The facelift is available in 4 exterior colors: Ferris White, Currant Red, Ashen Silver and Sable Black. The photos here feature the Euro-spec variant.

Key features inside include a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch MID, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, up to 5 USB ports, 6-way electrically-adjustable driver seat, and climate control. Safety and assistance systems include 6 airbags, ESC, TPMS, Hill Descent Control, 360-degree camera view, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. So, are there any juicy changes compared with the India-spec 2021 model? Of course, there are. The front electric motor offers 130 kW or 177 metric hp which is up by 34 metric hp, but the torque has dropped from 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) to 280 Nm (207 lb-ft). The battery pack is a larger 50.3 kWh (up by 5.8 kWh), which is claimed to offer a range of up to 461 km (286 mi). The electric crossover is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 8.5 seconds.

As for warranty, MG Motor India is offering 5-year/unlimited km for the car itself, 8-year/1.5 lakh km for the battery pack, round-the-clock Roadside Assistance (RSA) for 5 years, and five labour-free services.

The SAIC-owned brand recently launched ‘MG Charge’, where 1,000 AC fast chargers will be installed at residential localities across India. In the past, MG had partnered with companies like Fortum, Delta, eChargeBays, Exicom, Electreefi and Tata Power to introduce DC and AC fast chargers across the country. The company has teamed up with Attero for battery recycling.
