Yamaha has revealed a new PWseries S2 drive unit for e-bikes, which is claimed to be more powerful and efficient than the one it replaces. Complementing the new drive unit is a new Display B featuring a simple and easy user interface.

The PWseries S2 produces 75 Nm (55.3 lb-ft) of max torque, which is 5 Nm (3.7 lb-ft) more than the PWseries ST, and the weight has been cut to 2.85 kg (6.3 lbs) which is 0.55 kg (1.2 lbs) less than the aforementioned previous design. The combo of increased output with reduced mass and a 20% decrease in size should ensure a higher torque-to-weight ratio and an effortless performance. The top speed, however, remains the same at 25 km/h (15.5 mph), as is the power output of 250-watt (0.33 hp).

As for the Display B, well, it’s a removable 3-inch LCD display, and features a simple UI as mentioned already. The information can be displayed in English, German, French, Dutch, Italian or Spanish. It’s a ‘switch on and go’ system that saves the user’s previously selected settings such as ride assist mode or lights status (on/off).
