Mercedes-Benz and Bosch have been working on Automated Valet Parking (AVP) technology for over 5 years now, and the former has now announced that it has received Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) approval to offer automated driverless parking service (SAE Level 4) in the P6 parking area at the Stuttgart Airport.

7th-gen S-Class (W223) and all-electric EQS models equipped with the Intelligent Park Pilot function will be able to avail this high-tech service. As the name “Automated Valet Parking” or “driverless parking” suggests, the service doesn’t require a driver to be present behind the wheel.

The driver will simply get off at a designated place at the aforementioned airport and command the vehicle (via an app) to drive itself to its assigned space and park automatically; the self-drive is guided by Bosch hardware throughout. Later, the vehicle returns to the pick-up point in exactly the same way. The P6 is operated by APCOA Parking.
