2026 Nissan Micra debuts with eyebrow-raising design

The ‘Micra’ has been one of Nissan’s successful nameplates. The 4th-gen model (along with its French cousin Renault Pulse) was well received here in India too, and I think it still looks fairly contemporary. While the 5th-gen model didn’t make it to India, it had a decent run in other markets for about 7 years. Now, it’s time for the 6th-gen model, expected to go on sale in Europe by the end of this year.

As you can probably tell, the 6th-gen Micra will be available only as an EV, thanks to the AmpR platform upon which it is being built. The AmpR is shared with models including the Renault 4 E-Tech and the Renault 5 E-Tech. In terms of styling, while it does remind us of the Mini Cooper from the front-three-quarter angles, the rear-end with search icon-like light signatures looks fairly unique. According to Nissan, the semi-circle DRLs at the front are supposed to give an impression of raised eyebrows. The front lights perform short “welcome wink” and “farewell” animations.

All Micra grades roll off the assembly lines with 18-inch wheels; however, depending on the grade, there’ll be one of three different designs. As for colors, buyers can choose from a palette of 14 exterior combinations.

The new Micra measures under 4 meters in length and 1.8 metres wide, which makes it slightly wider than its predecessor. A wheelbase of 2.54 metres should offer a bit more space on the inside. Luggage capacity is claimed to be 326 litres.

The interior design looks pretty chic, and there are physical toggles underneath the central air vents, just like in its Renault siblings. In fact, the design is very similar to the Renault models mentioned earlier. The seats appear to be good with thicc body-hugging side bolsters. Other key highlights include a 10.1-inch digital cluster, a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, and Harman Kardon speakers.

As for the juicy bits of the story, the new Micra comes in two flavours. The one with a 40 kWh battery pack offers 90 kW (122 metric hp) max power, 225 Nm (166 lb-ft) max torque, and an estimated range of 308 km (191 mi). This one weighs 1,400 kg (3,086 lbs). For those who want more, there’s a variant with a 52 kWh battery pack, offering 110 kW (149.5 metric hp) max power, 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) max torque, and an estimated range of 408 km (253.5 mi). This one weighs 1,524 kg (3,360 lbs).

The battery packs can be DC fast-charged with up to 100 kW. Charging from 15%-80% is claimed to take 30 minutes. Charging efficiency is maximized, thanks to a standard heat pump and an efficient cooling system. The new Micra also comes with a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) feature.
