Genesis Magma GT Concept previews a hot 2-door coupe

Typically, when a carmaker introduces a new car, it is with the intention of selling as many as possible, generating revenue, and, of course, building a strong brand along the way. However, there are a few cars on this planet that came into existence for a different reason: racing intentions. The Toyota GR Yaris was a great example. Toyota needed a homologation special for the World Rally Championship (WRC). Regardless of the reason for existence, the GR Yaris proved to be a great product, one that made the Americans cry. The story of the Genesis Magma GT Concept is somewhat similar, meaning it’ll be a GT3 homologation special. Will it make people cry? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I guess I’ll have to agree with the social media comments. The Koenigsegg vibes are STRONG with this one, thanks to that Koenigsegg-typical visor-like design (wrap-around windshield and side glass). The rest of the car looks fairly unique, I’d say, far from looking like a Jesko. Notice how the headlights are integrated into the clamshell hood. Speaking of headlights, they’ve been designed in such a way that they also integrate front canards, albeit subtle ones. It’s a rear-mid-engined vehicle, meaning the aerodynamics are designed to redirect cold air to the combustion engine behind the driver. I think Luc Donckerwolke and his team have delivered another banger with the Magma GT Concept, and I’m pretty sure the production model will look almost identical to the concept.

The Magma GT doesn’t ask the driver to prove their skill; it enhances it. This is not simply a faster Genesis. It is the most complete expression of Genesis performance to date. – Luc Donckerwolke, President and Chief Creative Officer of Genesis

According to reports, the production Magma GT will be powered by a 3.2L twin-turbo V8, rumoured to be a variant of the 3.2L twin-turbo V8 that powers the Genesis’ upcoming GMR‑001 LMDh racer. You can expect the production Magma GT to pack anywhere between 650 and 700 horsepower.
