Skoda Epiq debuts with cute styling and compact size

You probably remember seeing the Skoda Vision 7S concept in 2022, a 7-seater family SUV which showcased the brand’s new design language. Well, the Skoda Epiq is essentially a production version of it, albeit in a subcompact size. And of course, the Epiq is Skoda’s version of the Volkswagen ID. Polo. The Epiq is expected to go on sale in Europe in the coming months. The Epiq will be followed by a larger version called the Peaq, which is currently undergoing testing.

The Epiq is Skoda’s first electric model built on the MEB+ platform, optimized for small front-wheel-drive electric cars. The tiny crossover measures 4,171 mm long, 1,798 mm wide and 1,581 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,601 mm.

Depending on the variant, the wheel sizes range between 17- and 19-inches. The front and rear fascias feature T-shaped light signatures. LED headlights are standard, while buyers can opt for matrix LEDs. Aerodynamic features include active cooling shutters behind the front bumper that open automatically when cooling is required. A panoramic glass roof is an optional extra.

A 475-litre boot is claimed to be among the largest in its class, while there’s also a tiny 25-litre frunk to store a charging cable and spare change. For the range-topping Epiq 55, Skoda claims a towing capacity of up to 750 kg (1,653.5 lbs) for an unbraked trailer and up to 1,200 kg (2,645.5 lbs) for a braked trailer.

Some of the key highlights inside, depending on the variant and/or options, include a 13-inch Android OS-based infotainment system, a digital cluster, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a 10-speaker Canton audio system, and upholstery made from recycled materials. Skoda claims to have incorporated more than 34 kg (75 lbs) of recycled materials in total.

7 airbags and the usual ADAS features are included as standard. However, the optional Travel Assist 3.0 includes Trained Parking and Remote Parking functions.

As mentioned, the Epiq is a front-wheel-drive EV. There are three variants to choose from: 35, 40 and 55. The Epiq 35 offers 85 kW (116 metric hp) and 267 Nm (197 lb-ft), drawing juice from a 38.5 kWh (37 kWh net) lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack. The Epiq 40 is pretty much the same, except the power output here is 99 kW (135 metric hp). Both these models are claimed to offer a range of up to 310 km (193 mi), and reach a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph).

The range-topping Epiq 55 boasts 155 kW (211 metric hp) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft), drawing juice from a larger 55 kWh (52 kWh net) nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery pack. This variant is claimed to offer a range of up to 440 km (273 mi), and reach a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph).

The Epiq supports V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) for powering external electrical devices, as well as V2H (Vehicle-to-Home) and V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid), subject to the use of a compatible wallbox.
