Nearly 3 years after its official India debut, Lexus has commenced local assembly of its cars. The first model to roll off the assembly line is the ES 300h, now priced at Rs 51,90,000 for the Exquisite trim and Rs 56,95,000 for the Luxury trim. The first locally produced model will be available from February 2020.

Compared to the imported ES 300h that was launched in July 2018, the locally produced model will be a lot cheaper. The luxury marque also launched the other BS-VI compliant models including the flagship LC 500h coupe and NX 300h models.

It appears that the Lexus CKD assembly will be carried out at the parent Toyota’s manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. The NX might join the ES assembly at a later date.

Currently, the most expensive Lexus in India is the LX, retailing at a ridiculous price of Rs 2,32,90,000 ($325,886), ex-showroom.

Lexus India also announced the launch of four new ‘Guest Experience Centres’ in Chandigarh, Chennai, Kochi and Hyderabad. These will complement the existing ones in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
