Ford EcoSport gets an ‘Active’ trim in Europe

Ford has introduced an ‘Active’ variant of the EcoSport in the European markets. Apparently, this was the result of a recent survey on behalf of the European Outdoor Group (EOG), where 70% of the respondents across Europe said that they are specifically looking forward to participating in outdoor activities and 86% stated that outdoor activities are essential for one’s wellbeing. More than half said they have missed outdoor pursuits more than anything else due to the pandemic restrictions.

Either way, the Active variant is now on sale in the European markets. So, what is different in the EcoSport Active compared to the regular EcoSport besides those wheel arch cladding and an ‘Active’ badging on the front fender? Well, I guess that’s more or less it. However, it also gets black styling elements such as the headlight housing, fog light surrounds, grille, mirror caps, roof rails, and of course, a black roof. It rides on 17-inch 5-spoke Y-design wheels wrapped with 205/50 tyres.

The cabin features an ‘A’ logo on the seat upholstery. The rest of the features have been carried over from other EcoSport trims, including an 8-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen display.

As for the powertrains, the EcoSport in the European markets is powered by a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that offers up to 92 kW (125 hp) and 180 Nm (133 lb-ft) of torque. There’s also a 1.5-litre EcoBlue diesel engine with up to 92 kW (125 hp) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque on offer. The output figures vary depending on the market. Both engines are paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels.

Although there’s no AWD on offer, Ford says that the Active model features bespoke suspension and steering tuning, and an enhanced limited-slip differential.
