MINI celebrates John Cooper’s birthday with Anniversary Edition

2021-MINI-Cooper-JCW-Anniversary-Edition

MINI is celebrating the 98th birthday of John Cooper (17 July 1923 – 24 December 2000) and 60 years of collaboration with the Cooper family, with a special edition 3-door Hatch based on the facelifted models. Limited to 740 units in total, the Anniversary Edition will be available in Cooper, Cooper S and JCW variants. The 740 comes from the number ’74’ the classic Mini Cooper wore on its first successful race track appearance. As limiting the production units to just 74 wouldn’t make a lot of sense, Mini probably figured it should add a zero next to 74.

Anyway, the example here showcases the JCW variant with a two-tone paint scheme; the roof, the rear spoiler, the mirror caps, and headlight & taillight surrounds are all in white. The bonnet stripes are also in white. Notice the ’74’ matt-finished number on the doors. The side scuttles feature the “COOPER” badging in a retro-ish font. In addition to British Racing Green metallic, the Anniversary Editions are offered in Midnight Black metallic and also in Rebel Green (JCW-exclusive).

Inside too, you can find the aforementioned Cooper branding on the door sills and on the Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel. Those red rings are a nod to the original John Cooper logo. Right next to the instrument display, you’ll find John Cooper’s signature and on the inside of the driver’s door frame, you’ll find the words — “60 years of Mini Cooper — The Unexpected Underdog”.
