BMW has launched the all-electric iX SUV in India, available in a single iX xDrive40 variant, priced at INR 1,15,90,000 ex-showroom, Pan India. The price is introductory, meaning it might go up in a few months. The SUV is being imported to India as a completely built-up unit (CBU), which explains the fat price tag. Deliveries are expected to commence in April 2022.

The iX made its global debut over a year ago as a production version of the iNEXT concept of 2018. Its design highlights include ‘Shy Tech’, where certain exterior and interior features are hidden from view or made discreet, such as the kidney grille with sensors, camera and radar tech; proximity sensors at body edges; flush door openers; washer under the front logo; camera with washer in the rear logo; integrated speakers, and head-up display’s projector recessed into the instrument panel.

Other key features include a panoramic glass roof, massage function for seats, BMW Live Cockpit Professional (a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen), BMW Virtual Assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, 18-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, Parking Assistant Plus, Reversing Assistant, and luggage capacity of up to 1,750 litres with 40/20/40 split.

The iX xDrive40 is an AWD SUV, which means there are two electric motors that offer a combined 240 kW (326 metric hp) and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque. The 76.6 kWh battery pack is estimated to offer a range of up to 425 km (264 mi). The battery pack is capable of DC fast-charging with up to 150 kW, and if found such a public charger, up to 95 km (59 mi) range can be added in about 10 minutes—according to BMW. A 11 kW AC charger takes about 7 hours to fully recharge the battery.

As for the warranty, BMW India is offering standard 2 years or unlimited km for the car itself and 8 years or 160,000 km for the battery pack.
