BMW i4 electric sedan launched in India

BMW-i4-eDrive40-Sport

BMW has launched the all-electric i4 sedan in India, available in a single i4 eDrive40 Sport variant, priced at INR 69,90,000, ex-showroom, Pan India. The i4 is being imported to India as a Completely-built-up unit (CBU).

The i4 made its global debut in March 2021 as the production version of the Concept i4 of the previous year. Production began in Munich last October. Globally, there’s the i4 M50 as well and there’s also a plan for a base eDrive35 variant, but for the Indian market, BMW is offering the eDrive40 for now. Key features for the Indian market include LED headlights, LED taillights, a sunroof, and 17-inch aerodynamic wheels.

Key features inside include BMW Live Cockpit Plus (a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch central display), 3-zone climate control, Sport Seats for driver and front passenger, 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, wireless smartphone charging, and safety systems such as airbags, ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, TPMS and Isofix anchorages. The i4 eDrive40 is powered by a single electric motor at the rear, offering 250 kW (340 metric hp) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. An 83.9 kWh (gross capacity; usable is 80.7 kWh) lithium-ion battery pack is claimed to offer a WLTP range anywhere between 493 and 590 km (306-367 mi). The battery pack can be DC fast-charged with up to 205 kW, but it doesn’t seem like there’s such a charger anywhere in India. But anyway, the car comes with a 11 kW AC charger.

As for the official performance figures, 0-100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time is 5.7 seconds, while the top speed is most likely limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). BMW is offering an 8-year/160,000 km warranty on the battery. A 5-year 24×7 Roadside Assistance is also included.
